French destroyers have powerful guns and great speed, but lack the Smoke Generator consumable that are so commonplace with other nations' destroyers. I’ve found the French BB line to be very fun tier 8 and up. How to play Playstyle Large, fast, and heavily-armed, French destroyers (classified by the Marine Nationale as destroyer leaders) are dangerous gunboats. Still, a very and useful fun build for coop. The secondaries them selves tend to be destroyed through a tough match and by the time you are really wanting them, half or more are gone. In coop it’s farmtastic! For randoms, I’ve found the 100s useless with Pen for most situations and even the fires to be pretty minimal. I really want to love the secondaries but long distance and HE heavy meta makes it really hard outside of coop. in the end I swapped out to survival builds. I played about 25 games as a secondaries ship in both Alsace and Repub. It could still be better with the French Captain, with adding more fire chance and speed to the ship. The Alsace also has the most secondaries of any ship shooting on one side which is 21 guns, coupled with the 12 15' guns make for a spicy combination. My build rn consists of full secondary build but with DE, and a little tank to not burn down, and with max chance being 8% on the 100mm's(2.1 sec reload with 12 on each side) and 15% on the 150mm's(8 sec reload with 9 that can shoot either side). The Alsace in particular is a very interesting and different type of secondary build that I thought would be a terrible idea, until I saw the potential it could be.

I'm going to start by saying that the French BB line is one of the most unused tech tree line, besides the British, because people believe that the flaws of the ship outweigh the strengths.
